I'd used del.icio.us online bookmaking since three years ago. I do not use IE Favorites or FireFox bookmark feature any more regularly. Always, I have my online bookmaking during any searching any where with out need to using export / import bookmarks (favorites). I do not need to back up and restore bookmarks (favorites) when I want to format windows. I can send my hot search results to a close friend using her / his del.icio.us id at the same time I store it on del.icio.us . You can open your friends posted links for you.
To avoid using proxy and cash your online bookmarks on your browser install following add-on Firefox (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3615).
It is too easy using del.icio.us with its special buttons (Post it and del.icio.us/home ) specially via firefox addon.
